Need immediate attention… we are there!

On 26 th February 22, at 6.00 pm, ZC Mr G. Basak received a call from NAC stating that our member Mr R. Sarkar required immediate attention. MCA Mr S. Ghosh immediately started for the member’s house and reached within 7 minutes. He found the member experiencing breathlessness, he was vomiting and was feeling extremely restless. Wasting no time, he called for the ambulance and within 12 minutes they reached the nearest hospital along with the member’s elder sister.

Resolving water crisis

On 20 th March at 10.45 pm RC Mr S. Alam received a WhatsApp message from Mr T K Batyabal’s daughter stating that there was a water crisis at her father’s house which required to be resolved on an urgent basis. The regular water supply that they received through the KMC pipelines had stopped, leading to a problematic situation. Being alone in this condition, things were becoming difficult and unmanageable for her father, and his daily routine was getting hampered. She requested Support Elders to help her father in this regard.

Service before self

Our member Ms K. Chakraborty’s husband, called ZC Mr M. K Poddar on 26 February stating that his wife was in a critical condition and required immediate attention. Mr Poddar instantly informed his senior about it and started for the member’s house. Knowing the urgency of the situation, he took up the matter himself, and didn’t wait for any field operation staff, as they were far from the place of duty. He notified the ambulance on the way and reached the member’s house within 11 minutes.

Anytime, just a beep away

On 22 February, after midnight, at 12:58 a.m. MCA Mr A. Haldar received a call from ALCO stating an emergency. He immediately started and reached the member, Mr K. Roy’s house within 12 minutes. On the way he had informed the ambulance which had also reached at the same time. After MCA Mr Haldar reached the member’s flat, he found his oxygen level dipping. He immediately asked for the medical documents for hospitalisation. Mr Roy being unable to speak, just pointed at the place where the documents were kept.

Serving with sensitivity

On 20th January 2022 at 4.00 p.m., during the daily call, there was a service request from our member Ms S. Basu. She wanted some formalities to be completed, related to her mobile phone connection. First of all, her late husband’s name had to be replaced by her own. Secondly, she wanted the payment service option to be changed from the existing prepaid service to post-paid service, as there was some dispute with excessive billing. As per her request, on the day of the scheduled weekly visit, MCA Mr N. Saha was assigned the job with all the details.

Presence of mind, saved life!

On 20 January 2022, ALCO IBD team received a call at 10.56 a.m. from KAB member Ms R. Sensarma. ZC Mr G. Basak, who was nearby, was immediately asked to visit the member. On reaching our member’s residence, Mr G. Basak found the member experiencing breathlessness and gasping for breath, even though the oxygen mask was attached. Mr G. Basak, who has worked in the Army medical department before, realised that there was a blockage somewhere and immediately asked for warm water.

Seamless communication and team work

On December 25, our member, Ms S. Laha, shared with Ms S. Malakar, ALCO IBD Lead, that she needed to go to Hyderabad AIG Hospital for medical treatment. She was worried about travelling from Kolkata to Hyderabad when she was ailing; booking a place to stay near the hospital; and taking care of all hospital formalities. Ms S. Malakar assured her that we would take care of everything. Details of the doctor at Hyderabad AIG Hospital were taken and forwarded to Hyderabad-based MCA Mr J. Srinivasulu.

When the Nations’ Bravehearts Serve the Elderly...

On 28th of January around 1 p.m., we received a call at ALCO from member Mr D. K. Adhikari’s MEAS device. We could only hear someone crying and asking for help. Through digital tracking, ALCO found that ZC Mr G. Basak was near Mr Adhikari’s residence. Mr Basak was informed and he rushed to the member’s house. He found the whole building engulfed in dense smoke and a fire engine was trying to douse the fire. Everyone from the building had come out. The ZC knew that our member was still recovering from Covid-19 and was almost bedridden.

Medical Emergency @ Night

On 16th of December 2021, MCA Mr G. Bhowmik received from Mr M. Halder and Ms M. Ganjai, who were manning ALCO, a call to go to our member Mr A. K. Bhattacharjee’s residence immediately because he was feeling unwell. He set off immediately and reached around 10 p.m. Seeing that Mr A. K. Bhattacharjee was experiencing extreme breathing difficulties, he took permission from our member’s wife to hospitalise him. The MCA informed ALCO and requested them to send an ambulance immediately. He then accompanied Mr Bhattacharjee and his wife to a nearby hospital.
